Digital diagnostics unites IT and users

The NEXUS / DIAGNOSTICS User Day brings together software applications for diagnostic areas in one event format. In order to really understand the challenges that doctors, MTAs and IT specialists face every day, we must be close to them and listen to them. NEXUS Group has created a platform for this, which offers its users the opportunity to exchange information with each other as well as with experts.

We are very grateful that we were still able to experience the closeness between customers and experts in a personal setting on March 3, 2020, before all events were canceled indefinitely due to the expansion of the Corona pandemic.

NEXUS CEO Dr. Ingo Behrendt opened the Diagnostics Users' Day for the third time. In his keynote speech, he presented the comprehensive ONE / NEXUS product portfolio and gave an outlook on future plans. Under the motto ONE / NEXUS, we unite diverse digital solutions that help users in their daily work. A smooth workflow in the use of medical software ensures that physicians have more time to concentrate on what is important - the patients.

The five diagnostic topics:
  • Laboratory, Pathology & Cytology
  • Radiology & Telemedicine
  • Obstetrics & Prenatal Medicine
  • Gastroenterology & Cardiology
  • Ophthalmology

User-oriented and versatile

About 150 customers of the NEXUS Group took advantage of the opportunity to ask specific questions, talk with experts and test solutions directly on site in a total of 26 workshops, software demonstrations and practical user presentations in the centrally located SQUAIRE in Frankfurt.

"It's great to get insights into so many different areas in just one day at the same location, with much more time for questions than is the case at a trade fair," praised one user. The wish to extend the user day to two days in order to have even more time for individual exchanges with experts was also expressed.

Digitization of your laboratory processes - networked, integrated and up-to-date

Without progress and technology, digitization cannot succeed in the laboratory either - that is beyond question. For this reason, the focus was on the latest developments and trends from the SWISSLAB world. The topics of networking as well as quality and organizational management are of great importance in the workflow of laboratory testing. Manfred Treumann, Manager of Software Development at NEXUS / SWISSLAB, presented numerous video examples of how analytical instruments can be connected and monitored efficiently and reliably - a true managed connection. And the NEXUS / QM Portal integrated in SWISSLAB also inspired the participants.

The center of attraction during the breaks were the hands-on demos. The highlights of individual departments and the mobile application LAURIS / ID-Check were presented. However, it was not only about getting to know the latest functions, but also about the exchange and direct feedback from the user's perspective.

In the spirit of close communication and exchange with our customers, Arnd Liman, NEXUS Division Manager of Pathology Development, presented what it means to completely digitalize pathology processes. In the cytology workshop, it could not be more current: the guideline for organized early cancer detection requires adjustments. Our team showed what needs to be considered in the new cytology guideline and what requirements one has to be prepared for in the future.

Digital radiology - paperless and reassuringly safe

In the area of radiology, NEXUS / CHILI started with a presentation on the topic of software security - What types of attacks are there and how do I protect myself from them. "We want to give our customers security in handling highly sensitive data; for this purpose, we subject our software to regular tests in order to detect and eliminate possible weak points as early as possible," said Florian Schwind, Head of Development for PACS & Telemedicine at NEXUS / CHILI.

Since the networking of experts is playing an increasingly important role in healthcare, NEXUS / CHILI offers telemedical portal solutions. Dr. Uwe Engelmann presented how these enable digital exchange of experts quickly and reliably. Prof. Dr. Bodo Kress, Chief Physician of Neuroradiology at Krankenhaus Nordwest, demonstrated the application of telemedicine in the stroke network on this topic and how it leads to an improvement in patient care, particularly in the area of neuroradiology.

Delivery room and birth in focus - the digital delivery room

The various modules of the NEXUS / GEBURTSHILFE specialist department solution were presented comprehensively by Christine Gärtner, Head of Business Unit, and Andrea Stegmann, Sales Management.

"Our participants were extremely taken with the innovations and optimization options presented. The workshops were well attended and a very homogeneous discussion round developed between the speakers and the participants following the interactive presentations," reported Christine Gärtner, who illustrated the switch from paper files to digital patient files in the "Digital Delivery Room".

"We are looking forward to facilitating the work of the employees of the obstetrics department in the future with a software solution tailored to their needs," added Andrea Stegmann.

Gastroenterology and cardiology

NBB/CWD.NG was one of E&L's highlights. Due to the many innovations, which included a modern design as well as many features, tools, processes and new modules, the E&L experts met with lively interest and many questions from the participants. The new clarity and quick view of preliminary findings, such as mouseover on a preliminary finding with detailed information and images, were particularly striking. This significantly supports the approach of rapid reporting of findings.

On the subject of medical terminology, Mr. Bötticher, Head of Medical Development at E&L, also provided an overview of the new terminology for specific departments, such as gastro/pneumo, cardio/HCL, gynecology and the operating room.

Ophthalmology: ifa software for the eye clinic

The User Day is growing and so is the portfolio of solutions presented. This year, the ophthalmology sector was represented for the first time at the User Day in the meet-the-expert format. Nina Steiner was on hand to answer customers' questions as an expert in ifa solutions.

The advantages of the ifa software with faster documentation, individually customizable interface, standardization of findings recording and patient documentation were followed with great attention and met with great interest even among non-specialists.

Clinical process integration via HL7 data streams, interaction with all HIS/HIS systems, connection of clinical diagnostic devices via the DICOM communication state, communication with PACS and RIS systems and orientation towards process flows according to the IHS standard were the focus of the discussions.

The answer to the still recurring question: "Security in the network / cloud solutions" was also provided. ifa systems supports users with the all-round package 'ifa Managed Service' (iMS). The IT specialists among the visitors were particularly enthusiastic about this topic.

Progress through dialog

The feedback from customers about the User Day was also very positive this year. The NEXUS Group collected new suggestions and ideas, which are to be incorporated in existing solutions as well as in new developments and expansions.

We are looking to the future in a positive mood and are looking forward to the next User Day in 2021 together with our customers. Until then, we will remain digitally connected with you and expand our webinar program.
