Building national networks

The NEXUS / CHILI technology enables the building of national telemedical networks

In regions of the world with low population densities there are generally not enough physicians all over the country to ensure the healthcare of the population. This is a classical scenario of use for telemedicine. NEXUS / CHILI products do not only allow regional networks to be built, but also national networks covering entire countries.
That's what we demonstrated e.g. in various countries of South America. Together with partners, we built networks in Chile, Brazil and Colombia, providing care to large undersupplied regions with high-quality medical services. Radiological and other data is acquired on the site and safely and rapidly transmitted via NEXUS / CHILI teleradiology solutions to remote experts who interpret them.

Features

  • Web-based  solution via Internet with fail-safe system, encryption and data compression
  • Low-cost, but stable solution on the site, which can be managed centrally
  • Integrated concepts for data transport up to professional reporting workstation
  • Intelligent routing mechanisms for data distribution for interpretation

Benefits

  • Technologically simple due to Internet technology instead of complex VPN solutions
  • High scalability and fail-safe operation
  • Better care in undersupplied regions
  • Optimal utilization of expensive specialists

Suitable products

The CHILI Hospital PACS Advanced is the solution recommended for medium-sized hospitals. The CHILI Hospital PACS Advanced receives, saves and visualizes DICOM and non-DICOM data and can smoothly be integrated into the existing infrastructure.

The software package contains all major functions and interfaces in order to link various in-house systems, such as HIS, RIS, modalities while meeting the IHE specifications. With its integrated web server, the Hospital PACS Advanced comes with web-based image distribution for 15 simultaneous users.

Features

  • Integration with HIS/ RIS
  • Up to 12 modalities
  • 15 simultaneous users in image distribution
  • DICOM Query/Retrieve for retrieval from three different systems

Benefits

  • Separation of clients: Data may be separated logically or physically into different data areas in order to meet data privacy requirements
  • Adaptation of foreign data: Foreign data from CD/DVD or from teleradiology can comfortably be adapted to the internal IDs
  • Multimedial data: Open for all data: Images, videos and documents in any format (DICOM and non-DICOM)
  • The PACS can be queried from foreign systems via DICOM Query/Retrieve

CHILI Web is a software solution for image distribution and teleradiology based on the well-tried CHILI PACS architecture which is capable of being extended. The system is IHE-compliant and can smoothly be integrated into the clinical workflow. The CHILI web server receives images from the imaging modalities or from a PACS via DICOM and saves them in a relational database system. The web server may be used as an interface to the existing PACS and can make PACS images available to web users.

Features

  • No software installation on the Clients, since web-based
  • No dependence on specific browsers or versions
  • Can be called from other systems (HIS, RIS, office computer, electronic medical record, ...)
  • Users have the same setting at all workplaces
  • Can be combined with PACS systems from other manufacturers

Benefits

  • Saves resources, since no configuration needs to be made for user accounts and no deployment required
  • Increase of process quality: All images are available at all workplaces at any time
  • Cost saving, as the viewer can also be used for reading and reporting
  • Multiple uses, as encryption and compression enable its use for teleradiology

This viewer is an operating system-independent web viewer for mobile terminal devices e.g. iPad, iPhone (Apple) or devices with Android operating systems. It supports both medical users and PACS administrators at the institution and on the way.

Features

  • Hardware- and operating system-independence due to web technology (HTML5)
  • Zero footprint principle (no installation, no own data storage on the client)
  • Viewer functions: Zoom, pan, level/window, annotations, display of findings, e.g.
  • Admin functions: PACS system monitoring, authorizations, releases and others
  • Mobile image acquisition via integrated camera and attribution to the specific case

Benefits

  • Easy integration into existing HIS/RIS/PACS
  • Can be called via URL from electronic medical record
  • Operating system-independent and terminal device-independent (Apple, Android,...)
  • Safety due to encryption and rapidity due to compression
  • No app - but HTML5

The professional workplace for radiologists for interpreting medical data. This software is commonly operated with a double monitor or a large monitor, where the contents of two monitors can be displayed simultaneously. Image retrieval can be controlled either from the RIS or from the workstation. Previous studies are automatically made available on the second monitor. Automatic hanging facilitates and accelerates working. The demo preparation is done "along the way" during interpretation by simple drag & drop into the desired demo folder. In the demo, the pictures will be visualized in the same way as at the time of transfer in the demo folder.

Features

  • Synchronization of visualization with HIS/RIS
  • Automatic image arrangement (hanging protocols)
  • Folders for image libraries (demos, rare cases, teaching)
  • True multimonitor concept – even on a "large" monitor

Benefits

  • Fast working due to mutual control of RIS and workstation
  • The demo is prepared "along the way" during interpretation
  • The same user interface for interpretation, demo and image distribution
  • Smooth requesting of consultations and providing answers to such requests
  • Integration of images into reports or Office documents by drag & drop

This viewer is part of the CHILI web server and runs on the internet browser.  In connection with a validated monitor, the software can also be used for interpretation.

Features

  • Visualization and interpretation (with validated monitor)
  • Can be integrated into other information systems
  • Image compression (precompressed or dynamically during data transmission)
  • Encrypted data transmission between server and client
  • Operating system-independent and browser-independent

Benefits

  • Alleviation of workload for IT, since no installation is required on clients
  • Internal and external availability of all images
  • Ideal for teleradiology according to German x-ray ordinance
  • Availability of images and reports for referring physicians

The Teleradiology Router is a program that can be installed locally and receives data from up to three DICOM nodes as C-Store SCP and forwards them to a defined other CHILI system via https-based CHILI protocol using compression.

Moreover, the system actively queries data via https-based CHILI protocol from a defined CHILI system, buffers them and sends the data to a DICOM node in the local network in the form of C-Store SCU.

The DICOM header data can be modified with configurable values during transfer.

Features

  • Protocol: http/s
  • DICOM receiver node: 3 C-Store SCP
  • Forwarding to another existing CHILI system (e.g. PACS, web server, gateway)
  • Rules for automatic forwarding depending on various parameters (e.g. AET, port, day of week, time)
  • Configurable modification of DICOM header data (e.g. prefix before study ID)

Benefits

  • The cheapest variant of teleradiology when a CHILI partner is available
  • Sending data in the background without user interaction
  • Automatic forwarding
  • Largely maintenance-free

The CHILI solutions are based on modules for communication, storage and visualization of multimedial medical data. They are in compliance with international standards and were developed under a quality management system according to ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 and are FDA 510(k) approved. The modules can easily be integrated in applications from other manufacturers.

Features

  • Quality-tested according to international standards
  • Modular
  • Based on international standards (DICOM, HL7, IHE)
  • Platform-independent

Benefits

  • Save costs by using modules that have been proven in use for many years
  • Establish interoperability of own products
  • Reduce time-to-market of new products
